IV Sedation Dentistry

Comfortable, calm, and cared for—every step of the way.

At Wellington Dentists, we understand that dental anxiety is very real. Our compassionate team takes the time to listen, explain your options, and create a calm, supportive environment where you feel comfortable and respected from the moment you arrive.

For patients who require more complex dental care, we offer IV sedation dentistry. IV sedation allows you to remain awake but deeply relaxed throughout your appointment, with little to no memory of the procedure. This form of sedation is carefully administered and continuously monitored, helping patients feel calm and at ease while treatment is completed safely and efficiently.

IV sedation is often used for wisdom teeth removal, as well as other complex extractions to help ensure maximum comfort during treatment.

Why IV Sedation?

  • Deep, reliable relaxation

  • Fast-acting and customizable to your individual needs

  • Ideal for extractions and select restorative procedures

  • Little to no recollection of the appointment

  • Continuous monitoring for your safety

Our trained team administers and monitors IV sedation throughout your visit, ensuring a smooth, stress-free experience while we focus on restoring your oral health.

Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) Sedation

Nitrous oxide—commonly known as laughing gas—is a light form of conscious sedation that helps patients relax during dental treatment. It is a safe and effective option for reducing anxiety and discomfort and is inhaled through a small nasal mask mixed with oxygen.

How It Works

  • You breathe normally through a nose mask

  • Nitrous oxide is introduced gradually to help you relax

  • You remain awake, responsive, and comfortable

  • Pure oxygen is administered at the end to clear the gas

  • Effects begin and wear off quickly

What You May Feel

  • Calm and relaxed

  • A light or floaty sensation

  • Reduced anxiety and discomfort

Most patients remain fully aware and remember their visit.

Safety

Nitrous oxide has an excellent safety record and is carefully monitored throughout treatment. Because it is eliminated through normal breathing, it does not place stress on the liver or kidneys. Side effects are uncommon and typically mild, such as nausea or dizziness.

After Your Appointment

  • Effects wear off within minutes

  • Most patients can drive themselves home

  • You may return to normal activities right away

Ideal For

  • Dental anxiety

  • Sensitive gag reflex

  • Patients seeking a calm, comfortable dental experience
